Prayer for the Week
Prayer to the Most Holy Trinity (Taken from St Basil the Great)
As I get up this morning, I thank you, Holy Trinity, that because of your great
goodness and patience you have not been angry with me; but you have shown
your usual love for us all. And I have woken up to start the day with praise and
thanks to you, glorifying your power. Now open my mind and heart to study
your words, and to understand your laws and do what you have asked me to do,
all the while singing to you with great love, and praising your all-holy name of
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and for ever and to the ages of ages. Amen.
Welcome Back Church School Students!
Throughout the church school year, our lessons will focus mainly on the Gospel reading and/or the Saint of the day for that Sunday; the students will also participate in special projects and readings about the Orthodox Faith, special lessons for feast days, and the fall church school performance.
We will begin the new year with a narrative play about The Life of Saint Matushka Olga of Alaska. We will be rehearsing for the play every Sunday beginning on 9/15 – 11/3. Our last rehearsal will be on Sunday, 11/3 and our church school class will be an hour long on that day, so please plan accordingly. The play will be performed on Sunday, 11/10. It is important that your children attend church school as often as possible, especially during the rehearsals for the play.
Please note that church school classes are 25 – 30 minutes long, depending on the lesson and the activity. We kindly ask parents to be patient and wait downstairs for your children. They will be dismissed when the lesson is finished and they have helped their friends to tidy up the room and put everything away before leaving.
It is so important for your child/children to attend church school regularly, otherwise they miss the opportunity to learn about their faith and to form close relationships with the other children in our community. Each lesson is created and written with the best interest of your child in mind to ensure their church school experience is positive, knowledgeable, interesting and joyful. Therefore, please make it a priority to bring your children to church so that they may benefit from the Divine Liturgy and the important lessons they are taught in church school.
All are welcome to attend church school. If you would like to sign your child up for church school, please speak with Matushka Catherine.
Take-Home Assignment Challenge
Every Sunday, the children will be given a small take-home assignment to work on during the week in their spare time. On the first day of church school, they will recieve a notebook and whenever they turn in a take-home assignment to Matushka Catherine, they may choose a sticker to put inside their book. At the end of the school year, those students who have earned the most stickers will be presented with either the gold, silver or bronze medal for their efforts. Take-home assignments are optional, but highly encouraged.
